Statistical Concepts

  • Helps educators to understand test-selection criteria, basic principles of measurement, administration techniques, and scoring procedures.

 

  • Statistics are a set of tools used for organizing data. Which can be identified as descriptive or inferential. Descriptive is used for summarization of data whereas inferential is used to test theories on a general basis.

 

  • To understand statistics better there are methods to gather meaning from numbers. The review of numbers can denote different meanings from different scales. 

 

Numerical scales are broken into four categories 

Nominal scale -is used to measure the rank and divide items into various categories.

 

Ordinal scale- records data without there actually being a differentiation between them.

 

Interval- is an orderly measurement where two variables are equal.

 

Ratio- where zero and equal neighboring points are measured.
