When administering a test, it is best to look through the given manual and follow the directions which were created by the people who developed the test.

A little practice goes a long way when it comes to these instances, when you are comfortable in your environment it reflects on the students, especially in such moments where the students are tense due to the importance of the test.

Engaging in friendly conversation before the test begins eases the tension, especially right before you give a brief introduction to the test and explain why the test is being completed.

Basal & Ceilings

The starting and stopping points of a test are to be determined so that unnecessary items are not administered.

  • The starting points are meant to represent a level at which a student could answer all items.

Each student must establish a basal. A basal is a level at which the student could correctly answer all easier questions. The manual will usually state the student must get a certain number of questions correct in a row to determine the basal and then the test should be carried out if not then the test is too hard, and she is given administered an alternative. The starting points can be given as age or grade.

The ceiling is the point where the student will not be able to pass the question. The student will not be able to pass the questions. The student must get a certain number of questions in a row incorrectly to see what their ceiling is. The test is stopped once their ceiling is hit.
