Percentile rank and z scores provide additional ways of looking at data.

Percentile ranks arrange each score on the continuum of the normal distribution. The percentile range from 99.9th percentile to less than 1st percentile. 

z Scores indicate where a score is located in terms of standard deviation units. 

Stanines are used to report many group achievement test scores. Stanines divide the scores into nine groups and are reported as 1 through 9.

Deciles are scores that are reported in 10 groups ranging from a score of 10 for the lowest grouping to 100 for the highest group score. each grouping represents 10% of the obtained scores.

Studying this chapter thoroughly assessment of students includes obtaining data that is used to make an educated decision. the interpretation of data requires us as teachers to understand how to associate numbers with specific levels of performance and how to use the data to compare one student with a national sample.
